Killarney region and walks and National Park

Killarney is an ideal choice for a great day in Kerry. Don't be put off by the weather if it is not pure blue sky, there are plenty of interesting things to see on a good day and on a wet day also. I'm going to give you suggestions for a reasonably good weather in Killarney . I will add points of interest in RED for rainy days.

From the Lake Hotel you can walk direct into the Killarney National Park. Leaving the hotel turn right stay within the jaunting car / cycling, walking track. after 2km you will arrive at Muckross Abbey, continue on to Muckross House and Gardens, here you can go on to visit Torc Waterfall ideal for a Photo Shoot. Returning to Muckross House where you can tour the house inside. Then there is the Traditional Farms close by, Country life in Ireland in the early 20th Century. Muckross Boat House is towards the lake and offer boat trips on the Middle / Muckross lake. Heading back to the Lake Hotel you will see the hotel across the water, this is Lough Lein / Lower lake. At the Lake Hotel we offer Boat Trips at 4pm and can be booked at the Hotel Reception. (seasonal only)

A Great Walking Option

Take an open boat from Ross Castle to Lord Brandons Cottage. This is 13 miles in an open boat crossing the Lower Lake, Bricin Bridge, the Middle Lake, Dinis Cottage, Long Range River, up to the Upper Lake and Lord Brandons Cottage. Here you can get a snack and walk the Kerry Way to Derrycuniheey Home of Ireland's oldest Oak Forest. Here you cross the main road and pick up the Old Kenmare Road back to Killarney. From Lord Brandons to the Lake Hotel it is (14 miles) 22km. It is a beautiful walk and you will end up descending to Torc Waterfall, pass Muckross House, Abbey and back to relax in our outdoor hot tub of relax in the Devil's Punchbowl bar overlooking our 12th Century Castle and reflect on the magnificent day over a cool Guinness.
