Kerry way

Holidaying, romantic breaks or family fun the Ring of Kerry ideal choice for a great day in Kerry. Don't be put off by the weather if it is not pure blue sky, there are interesting things to see on a good day and on a cloudy or wet day also. I'm going to give you suggestions for a good weather on the Ring of Kerry. I will add points of interest in RED for rainy days.

Leaving the Hotel turn left into Killarney and take the Killorglin Road home of Puck Fair an ancient Pagan Festival celebrated on the 10, 11 & 12th of August each year. After Killorglin you will pass the Bog Village on the way to Glenbeigh and Rossbeigh, a very popular beach with locals. Heading to Cahersiveen you will pass the Mountain Stage with great Vistas of Dingle Bay. Behind you you have the Old Railway Track on the mountain side which is now part of the "Kerry Way". Cahersiveen next, here you can continue on to Waterville of after leaving the town turn right to Renard Peir and take the Car ferry to Valentia Island €5 per car. On Valentia there are many interesting locations, these or on the map you will receive when paying for the Car Ferry.

Arriving in Knights town head for the Lighthouse and turn left to the Radio Station. Just before the radio station you will find the Tetrapod sign. It is a steep decent and climb but it is worth it for those who are active. The footprints date back 385 million years ( watch out if there is large swells it can be dangerous). Glaneam Gardens is an ideal stop for Kids as there is many Paths around the Gardens that are sheltered and would be an option on a wet day. Take the northerly road along to Geokaun Mountain, there is a tool to drive to the top of €4 per car. The view at the top is worth it it is a magnificent view and the cliffs half way up. The Cliffs are as scenic as any in Ireland. A few minutes on you will find a sign for ireland's largest candle. If you like candles it is worth a visit and Kids can make their own candles here. Cullo Cliff (very dangerous !!) and Saint Brendan's well is next, here you will pass O'Shea's Pub (closed) as seen in the Guinness commercial. Now you leave the island by the bridge to Portmagee, you will pass the Skellig Experience well worth a visit, with the history od the Skelligs. These are the Large Rocks sticking out of the Ocean to the West.

Turn right and drive the narrow Skellig Ring (Cars and mini vans only), this spectacular drive will bring you to Saint Finians Bay, a small scenic beach with the Skellig's in the back ground. Also home to Jack O'Connor Kerry's all Ireland winning football coach. Here you can shout "Up the Kingdom" when you arrive. Take a break here and then go to Ballinskelligs and on into Waterville. Popular with Charlie Chaplin, Tiger woods, Walt Disney, Michael Douglas and Payne Stuart to name a few. Continue on to Caherdanel via Coomakesta pass very scenic, here you can visit Derrynane House, the Blue Flag Beaches or drive down to Lamb's Head, a scenic drive overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and Derrynane Beach. Drive a couple of miles and you have Ireland's only beach bar at O'Carroll's Cove, enjoy the view as we will be heading along the Kenmare river to Sneem, home of the once famous Casey Brothers from Sneem. There is a statue of Steve "the Crusher Casey" World Wrestling Champion, when wrestling was Wrestling, on the Killarney road side of the square. You can go to Kenmare or go straight to Moll's Gap, popular with busses. Either way you will end up at Moll's Gap and drive to Ladies View through the Killarney National park. You will pass Torc Waterfall, Muckross House, Muckross Abbey and now you will arrive back at the lake Hotel. Relax in the Outdoor Hot Tub, have a Massage of just a cool guinness in our Devil's Punchbowl bar overlooking the 12th Century floodlit castle and the Mountains and Lakes of Killarney.

To enjoy the "Ring of Kerry" you should give yourself a full day, leaving before 10am and expect to return around 6pm.
